The wait is over. We are proud to announce that the revolutionary 6D helmet is now available at BTO Sports. The helmet that Geico Honda team riders Eli Tomac, Zach Osborne have been wearing during this year’s Supercross series can be yours today! The new 6D helmet is a total revolution in helmet design.
ODS™ ( OMni-DiRECTiOnaL SUSPEnSiOn™ ) 6D’s™ revolutionary patent pending ODS™ ( Omni-Directional Suspension™ ) represents a fully active, in-helmet suspension and kinetic energy management system. The mechanics, engineering, materials, and manufacturing are very complicated, but actually, the concept is quite simple. With the ODS™ system, the EPS liner is divided, creating a compound-liner assembly. These two liners are separated by a very specific programmed array of elastomeric isolation dampers creating an air-gap. it is this array of isolation dampers surrounding the entire liner, combined with the air-gap, that affords the free-motion suspension capability of ODS.™
In short, the 6D helmet uses two separate EPS foam liners, with the two liners suspended by 27 unique rubber dampers. In a low intensity crash, the inner EPS shell compresses towards the outer shell, but is damped by the ODS (Omni-Directional Suspension) devices, which look like rubber hour glasses. The absorptive qualities of the ODS slows the compression of the foam EPS down until the force of the crash compresses the rubber completely – which leads to the inner foam liner and outer foam liner meeting each other…at which point they become a conventional one-piece EPS liner.
It’s like having tiny shock absorbers around your head to protect you in not only the big crashes, but the small crashes as well.
The new 6D helmet saved Eli Tomac from this nasty crash in Oakland.
