Highlights of the Hafjell World Cup 2012 UCI Downhill World Cup Championship
Video: Hafjell World Cup Finals /Dirt
The final round of the 2012 UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Hafjell, Norway, produced a first-time winner in the men’s competition, with Canadian Steve Smith of Devinci Global Racing beating out his teammate George Brannigan. While the battle for the men’s overall downhill World Cup title was over after round six, with Trek’s Aaron Gwin having locked it up by virtue of his four wins, the competition for second in the final standings was far from done, with world champion Greg Minnaar, riding for Santa Cruz Syndicate, a mere 19 points in front of Gee Atherton of the GT Factory Racing team.
Winning your first World Cup is always going to be special, but to do it in the final race of the year at a venue like Hafjell makes it extra epic. Congratulations to Canadian pinner Stevie Smith – you’ve earned this one!
